Elsie “Fern” Smith, 96 years, of Fort Madison, Iowa died 2:50 am Wednesday May 23, 2012 at the Fort Madison Health Center, Fort Madison, Iowa. She was born May 23, 1916 at Steffensville, Missouri, the daughter of John J. and Zora (Bruner) Daniel. On March 18, 1935, she married Arance Everett “Bud” Smith at Palmyra, Missouri. He preceded her in death July 11, 1974.

She had lived most of her life in Fort Madison, Iowa. She worked at Sheaffer Pen Company, cooked at Rainbow Gardens for many years and was a line inspector at IAAP. She enjoyed her flowers and plants. She was of the Christian Faith.

She is survived by eight grandchildren, two nieces and two nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters, one son: Dickie Lee Smith, one daughter: Joyce McCulloch, and one granddaughter: Valerie McClairn.

Graveside services will be 10:30 am Saturday May 26, 2012 at the Oakland Cemetery, Fort Madison, Iowa. Pastor Bill Willis will officiate. A memorial has been established, contributions may be made at the Barr Memorial Chapel or at the time of the service.
