Leta Mae Stinnett

Leta Mae Stinnett, 88 yrs, of Fort Madison, Iowa died at 3:45 am Sunday, June 17, 2012 at the Great River Medical Center, West Burlington, Iowa. She was born September 7, 1923 at Medill, Missouri, a daughter of Artie and Samantha (Burris) Mitten. On January 4, 1947, she married Dossie M. Stinnett at Fort Madison, Iowa. He preceded her in death August 8, 1979.

Leta was a homemaker. She also worked doing teletype for the Santa Fe Railroad, at Breen’s Newstand, and Rump’s Children’s Clothing Store. She was a member of the Fort Madison United Methodist Church. She enjoyed doing crafts, painting, and reading. She was an avid Hawkeye Fan. She enjoyed spending time with her daughters and grandchildren.

She is survived by three daughters: Linda Clatt, of Fort Madison, Iowa; Barbara (husband Mike) Wedel, of Fort Madison, Iowa; and Michele (husband Bruce) Weisinger, of Marion, Iowa; one brother, Carl (wife Lois) Mitten, of Houston, Texas; five grandchildren, two great grandchildren, one aunt, Clara Huffaker, of Lafayette, Louisiana; several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, one infant brother, one sister, Alta Stott, and son-in-law, John Clatt. Visitation will be held from 10:00 - 11:00 am Wednesday, June 20, 2012 at the Barr Memorial Chapel, Fort Madison, Iowa. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday, June 20, 2012 at the Barr Memorial Chapel, with Reverend John Simpson, officiating. Burial will be at Soldiers Circle, Oakland Cemetery, Fort Madison, Iowa. A memorial has been established the American Diabetes Association or PAWS, contributions may be made at the Barr Memorial Chapel.
