William F.

William “Bill” F. Holvoet, 67 yrs, of Fort Madison, Iowa, died at 5:35 pm Friday, June 29, 2012 at the Fort Madison Health Center, Fort Madison, Iowa. He was born October 29, 1944 at Fort Madison, Iowa, the son of Frank J. & Pauline “Peggy” (Thomas) Holvoet. On October 22, 1966, he married Michaela “Mickie” Kilroy at St. Louis, Missouri. They were married 45 years.

Bill has been a lifelong resident of Fort Madison. He graduated from the Fort Madison High School in 1962. He met the love of his life while attending Northeast Missouri State Teachers College, in Kirksville, Missouri. He worked for the Community Action Agency of Southeast Iowa for 35 years, retiring in 2006. He was past president of the Fort Madison Jaycees, past chairman of the Fort Madison United Way, past chairman of the Fort Madison Human Rights Commission, past board president of the Emma Cornelius Homeless Shelter, past chairman of the Fort Madison Housing Authority, was the first director of the Southeast Iowa Area Agency on Aging, secretary of the Iowa state Homeless and Housing Commission, and past chairman of the State Association of Area Agency on Aging. He is a member of the Holy Family Parish. He was an avid cardinal fan, avid collector of antiques, and enjoyed going to auctions and flea markets. He dearly loved his children and grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Mickie Holvoet, of Fort Madison, Iowa; three sons: Christopher (wife Peggy) Holvoet, of Davenport, Iowa; Martin Holvoet, of Rome, Italy; Brian (wife Sara) Holvoet, of Wever, Iowa; six grandchildren: Peter, Connor, Michaela, Mason, Grace, and Reagan;and one uncle: John “Jack” Holvoet, of Fort Madison, Iowa. He is preceded in death by his parents.

Friends may call after 1:00 pm Monday, July 2, 2012 at the Barr Memorial Chapel, Fort Madison where the family will meet friends from 4:00 - 7:00 pm. A Christian Wake service will be begin at 7:00 pm at the funeral home during visitation. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 am Tuesday, July 3, 2012 at the Sacred Heart Church, of Holy Family Parish, Fort Madison with Reverend David Wilkening as Celebrant. Burial will be at the Sacred Heart Cemetery, Fort Madison, Iowa. A memorial has been established for the Holy Trinity Catholic Schools, contributions may be made at the Barr Memorial Chapel or at church the day of the mass .
