Obituary

Albert F. Groth, 76 years, of Fort Madison, Iowa died at 12:40 am Saturday, November 7, 2015 at the West Point Care Center, West Point, Iowa. He was born January 14, 1939 in Chicago, Illinois, a son of Albert P. and Mildred Ruth (Gierke) Groth. On July 14, 1962, he married Patricia Ann "Pat" Cole in Norton Shores, Michigan. She survives.

He moved to Fort Madison, Iowa to work at Armour Dial in 1972. From 1976 to 1991, he worked as the Controller for Morse Rubber Products/Trellex-Morse, Keokuk. For many years he worked with his wife, Pat, at Catricia's Needles and Brushes/Ben Franklin/Stitchin Addiction. In addition, during tax season he worked for Tax-Smiths for several years. He earned his BS in Business Economics at the Illinois Institute of Technology, Chicago, Illinois, and in 1990, he returned to college, and earned his Masters of Business Administration at the University of Iowa. He was part of the "Geezers" singing group, Old Fort Players, and Lee County Iowa Genealogy. He was a member of the First Christian Church, Fort Madison, Iowa. He enjoyed bowling, sailing, salmon fishing and was active with the YMCA swim team.

He is survived by his wife Patricia "Pat" Groth, of Fort Madison, Iowa; one son, Albert Michael "Mike Groth, of Fort Madison, Iowa; two daughters: Sheryl Whitlatch, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Elizabeth "Liz" (husband Bruce) Tennant, of Des Moines, Iowa; one brother, Robert (wife Joyce) Groth, of Kingston, Illinois; two sisters: Janice Sieghart, of Brooklyn, Michigan; Myla (husband Charles) Matson, of Cookeville, Tennessee; three grandchildren and four great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and one niece.

Per his wishes, his body has been cremated. Family will greet friends from 10:00 - 11:00 am Saturday, November 14, 2015 at the Barr Memorial Chapel, Fort Madison. A memorial service will follow and be held at 11:00 am Saturday, November 14, 2015 at the Barr Memorial Chapel, with Maxine Dennison officiating. A memorial has been established for Lee County Hospice, contributions may be made at the Barr Memorial Chapel, Fort Madison.
