Alvin Edward Meierotto, 84 years, of Fort Madison, Iowa died at 11:57 pm Saturday, October 10, 2015 at the Great River Medical Center, West Burlington, Iowa. He was born December 22, 1930 at Houghton, Iowa, a son of Frank and Clara (Holtkamp) Meierotto. On December 29, 1952, he married Mary Margaret "Margie" Coster at Fort Madison, Iowa. She survives.
Alvin was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps, serving during the Korean War. He graduated from St. Joseph's Catholic High School, Fort Madison, Iowa, and attended the University of Iowa where he studied engineering. He worked as a foreman at J.I. Case, retiring in 1989. He was a member of Holy Family Parish. He enjoyed playing cards, fishing, gardening, canning, and special times with his grandkids. He loved his family.
He is survived by his wife, Margie Meierotto, of Fort Madison, Iowa; four sons: Daniel Meierotto, of Wever, Iowa; Brian (Barbara) Meierotto, of Montrose, Iowa; Patrick Meierotto, of Delhi, Iowa; James Meierotto, of Fort Madison, Iowa; two daughters, Deborah Mapes, of Montrose, Iowa and Carol (Gary) Glasgow, of West Point, Iowa; two brothers, Cyril Meierotto, of Fort Madison, Iowa and Francis "Frank" Meierotto, of Colorado; one sister, Darlene Denz, of Burlington, Iowa; 19 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, five great great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, two sisters, one son Dennis, and one grandson Spencer.
A Rosary will be recited at 4:00 pm Wednesday, October 14, 2015 at the Barr Memorial Chapel, Fort Madison. Visitation will follow and continue until 6:00 pm, Wednesday evening at the funeral home. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am Thursday, October 15, 2015 at the Ss. Mary and Joseph Catholic Church, Holy Family Parish, Fort Madison, Iowa, with Reverend David Wilkening, as Celebrant. Burial will full military rites will be at Soldiers Circle, Oakland Cemetery, Fort Madison, Iowa. A memorial has been established for the Soldiers Circle Fund, contributions may be left at the Barr Memorial Chapel and Cremation Services.
