Anne Louise Steele, 83 years, of Fort Madison, Iowa died at 1:14 am Monday, January 16, 2012 at the Great River Hospice House, West Burlington, Iowa. She was born April 9, 1928 at Indianola, Iowa, a daughter of Cecil E. and Alyn I. (Thorn) Griffin. On October 13, 1946 she married Arthur Wayne Steele at Montezuma, Iowa. He preceded her in death March 31, 2009.

In 1946, she moved to Fort Madison. She was a secretary for the Fort Madison High School for many years. She was an active member of the Fort Madison Christian Church.

She is survived by her three daughters: Jayne (husband Roger) Poage, of Fort Madison; Jeanne (husband Scott) Fehseke, of Fort Madison; and Julie (husband Dean) Summa, of Johnston, Iowa; two sisters: Frances Kutzner, of St. Charles, Missouri; and Dorothy Haworth, of Caledonia, Michigan; 6 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters, Grace Strah and Mary Best, and one brother, Richard Griffin.

Her family will greet friends from 10:00 - 11:00 am Thursday, January 19, 2012, at the Barr Memorial Chapel, Fort Madison. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Thursday, January 19, 2012 at the Barr Memorial Chapel, with Reverend Mike McHugh, officiating. Burial will be at Oakland Cemetery, Fort Madison. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established for the Fort Madison Christian Church; contributions may be made at the Barr Memorial Chapel.
