Carl L. Meierotto, 86 years, of West Point, Iowa died on Saturday, May 21, 2016 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City, Iowa. Carl was born at home on September 22, 1929 near West Point, Iowa, a son of John Christ Jr. and Gertrude (Stuekerjurgen) Meierotto. On August 5, 1961, he married Dixie Odell at the Sacred Heart Church, Fort Madison, Iowa. She survives.
Carl was a graduate of St. Mary's High School, West Point. He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during the Korean War. He was a lifelong farmer. He loved his animals and pets, gambling machines, mushroom hunting and berry picking, and watching the farming channel on RFDTV. Years ago, he and Dixie, enjoyed square dancing. He was a member of the American Legion, Holtz-Geers #668 and of St. Mary's of the Assumption Catholic Church, West Point.
He is survived by his wife, Dixie Meierotto, of West Point, Iowa; four sons: Jon (Lisa) Meierotto, Chris (Connie) Meierotto, Jeff Meierotto, and Brian Meierotto, all of West Point, Iowa; one brother, James Meierotto, of West Point, Iowa; four grandchildren: Trevor, Daisy, Ace, and Hanna; several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He is preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Helen Baxter.
A Rosary will be recited at 4:00 pm Tuesday, May 24, 2016 at the Barr-Holtkamp Funeral Home, West Point, Iowa. His family will greet friends from 5:30 - 7:30 pm Tuesday, May 24, 2016 at the funeral home, where a Christian Wake Service will be begin at 7:00 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am Wednesday, May 25, 2016 at St. Mary's of the Assumption Catholic Church, West Point, Iowa, with Reverend Dennis Hoffman as Celebrant. Burial with full military rites will be at Calvary Cemetery, West Point. A memorial has been established for St. Mary's Church or the West Point Fire and Rescue, contributions may be left at the church or sent to the Barr-Holtkamp Funeral Home, 412 Ave C, P.O.
