Carol Elaine Walljasper, 77 years, of Fort Madison, Iowa died Thursday morning, December 15, 2016 at Des Moines, Iowa. She was born March 5, 1939 at Fort Madison, Iowa, a daughter of Charles and Pearl (Duckworth) Bindewald. On May 30, 1959, she married Thomas A. Walljasper at St. Mary's Church, Fort Madison, Iowa. He preceded her in death on December 25, 2014.
Carol was a 1957 graduate of Fort Madison High School. She raised eight children. After her kids went to school she worked outside of her home for Heifner's Jewelry and later for Drs. Smith and Smith. She was a member of Holy Family Parish. Carol's greatest pride and joy was her enormous family. She had a tremendous talent for baking and loved to share her delicious treats with others.
She is survived by eight children: Susan (Duane) Johnson, of Carlisle, Iowa; Thomas J. (Suzi) Walljasper, of Fort Madison, Iowa; Sally (Michael) Knustrom, of Fort Madison, Iowa; Michael (Crickett) Walljasper, of San Antonio, Texas; J. Andrew Walljasper (Jared Reed), of Montrose, Iowa; Jane Holterhaus, of Fort Madison, Iowa; Matthew (Stephanie) Walljasper, of Urbandale, Iowa; Julie (Matt) Donovan, of Des Plaines, Illinois; four brothers: Gene (Alice) Bindewald, of California, Thomas (Nancy) Bindewald, of Nevada, James (Betty) Bindewald, of Illinois, and Fred (Janet) Bindewald, of Iowa; twenty-two grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one brother, Robert Bindewald, and one grandson, Thomas W. Walljasper.
Per her wishes her body has been cremated. Her family will greet friends from 10:00 - 11:00 am Friday, December 30, 2016 at Ss. Mary and Joseph Catholic Church, Holy Family Parish, Fort Madison, Iowa. Mass of Christian Burial will follow and begin at 11:00 am Friday, December 30, 2016 at Ss. Mary and Joseph Catholic Church, Holy Family Parish, with Reverend Joseph Phung as Celebrant. Burial of Carol and her husband, Thomas, will be Oakland Cemetery, Fort Madison, Iowa. A memorial has been established for St. Jude's Hospital, contributions may be at church or left at the Barr Memorial Chapel.
