Obituary

Charles "Charlie" Lawrence Posz, 88 years, of Fort Madison, Iowa died at 3:40 pm Saturday, June 25, 2011 at the West Point Care Center, West Point, Iowa. He was born December 9, 1922 at Fort Dodge, Iowa a son of Lawrence C. and Lois (Woods) Posz. On June 23, 1947, he married Mabel A. Kent at Mason City, Iowa. She survives.

Charlie was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during World War II, with the 95th Army General Hospital in Europe. He then attended and graduated from Iowa State University. He worked as an industrial engineer for United States Steel, Gary, Indiana for 35 years. Charlie and Mabel were avid travelers for many years, including traveling by RV for several decades. They went to Texas during the winters for 25 years. In 2005, they started spending their summers in Iowa to be near their son, Jim and his family. He was a volunteer at the Methodist Hospital in Gary, Indiana for 20 years and the Mission Hospital in Texas for 5 years. He was a charter member of the Marquette Park United Methodist Church in Gary, Indiana, a member of the First United Methodist Church, Mission, Texas and of the Fort Madison United Methodist Church, Fort Madison, Iowa. He loved music and played saxophone for 15 years with the "Rusty Pipes" in Gary, Indiana, and with the "Rio Grande Valley" band in Texas for 10 years and again here in Fort Madison. He sang in the Marquette Park United Methodist Church choir for 50 years.

He is survived by his wife, Mabel A. Posz, of Fort Madison, Iowa; one son, Jim (wife Betty) Posz, of Fort Madison, Iowa; one daughter, Anne (husband David) Maclure, of San Antonio, Texas; two brothers, Ray (wife Betty) Posz, of Whidbey Island, Washington and James (wife Joan) Posz, of Renton, Washington; four grandsons: Ian (wife Mia-Carla) Maclure, Allen (wife Marsha) Posz, David (wife Darcie) Posz, and Ty (wife Kristy) Maclure; two great grandsons, Kyler and Kayden, numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Per his wishes, his body has been cremated. A memorial service will be held at 11:00am Saturday, July 2, 2011 at the Fort Madison United Methodist Church, 510 9th Street, Fort Madison, Iowa. Reverend Brenda Goodall will officiate. A memorial has been established for Alzheimer's Association
