Danny L. Horton, 59 years, of Fort Madison, Iowa died 11:57 pm Friday April 1, 2011 at the Fort Madison Community Hospital. He was born in Dallas, Texas on August 30, 1951 to Frank and Betty (Tabor) Horton.
In 1974 he married Rita Washburn at Alexandria, Missouri. She preceded him in death on January 13, 1991.
Danny was a Correctional Officer at the Iowa State Penitentiary. He was an artist of painting, drawing, cartoons, and sketches. He enjoyed to do wood carvings. He loved to help friends and spend time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was of the Christian faith.
Danny is survived by his parents Frank and Betty Horton, of Waverly, Tennessee; 2 sons: James "Bo" (wife Sandy) Horton, of Ardmore, Oklahoma; Dallas (wife Heather), of Hamilton, Illinois; one daughter, Tonya Horton of Fort Madison; one sister, Debra (husband Greg) Rushton, of Waverly, Tennessee; one brother, Mitch (wife Celia) Horton, of Waverly, Tennessee; six grandchildren, several nieces and nephews; mother-in-law: Dixie Washburn, of Hamilton, Illinois; and a close friend, Kris Maynard, of Niota, Illinois. He was preceded in death by his wife, step-daughter: Erin and granddaughter: Dayinera.
As per his wishes, the body of Danny Horton has been cremated. Family will meet friends for visitation beginning at 5:00 pm Monday April 4, 2011 at the Barr Memorial Chapel. A Memorial Service will be held at the funeral home at 6:00 pm during visitation, Pastor Bill Willis will officiate. A memorial has been established in his name for the family. Contributions may be made at the funeral home. Barr Memorial Chapel, Fort Madison has handled the cremation and is in charge of arrangements.
