Darlene Elizabeth Smith was born February 7, 1925 at Fort Madison, Iowa, the daughter of David Edward and
Barbara H. (Schnitker) Bishop. On August 15, 1942, she married Eugene "Gene" F. Smith at Kahoka, Missouri. He preceded her in death March 26, 1995. She worked as a press operator at Gleason Inc., Fort Madison. She was a former member of the Eagles at Fort Madison. She was of Christian Faith.

At 85 years of age, Darlene died 8:00 pm Wednesday, June 30, 2010 at her home. She is survived by her two sons: David Robert Smith and Larry Joe Smith both of Fort Madison, Iowa, two grandsons, four great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters, one brother, two sons: Gerald Lee Smith and Michael Gene Smith and one granddaughter, Kelly Jo Smith.
