Doris H. Bentley, 86 years, of Fort Madison, Iowa died at 12:35 pm Wednesday, August 3, 2016 at the Great River Klein Center, West Burlington, Iowa. She was born August 20, 1929, a daughter of Benjamin and Ruby (Shannon) Harrison. On November 30, 1947, she married Charles L. "Buck" Bentley at Waterloo, Iowa. They were married for 60 years. He preceded her in death June 7, 2008.

Doris and her family moved to Fort Madison in 1961. She was a homemaker, but also worked part-time at JC Penny's and then at Spurgeons. She sang with the Sweet Adelines. She was a member of the Fort Madison United Methodist Church, where she was active as a Sunday school teacher and sang in the choir. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting, and loved to spend time with her grandkids.

She is survived by four sons: Todd (wife Debbie) Bentley, of Lexington, South Carolina; Judd (wife Becky) Bentley, of Keller, Texas; Matt (wife Dianne) Bentley, of Fort Madison, Iowa; Ross (wife Mary) Bentley, of Perryville, Missouri; one daughter, Jill (husband Larry) Ross, of Granite City, Illinois; two sisters, June Modlin, of Arizona and Jean Schumaker, of Seattle, Washington; 12 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and seven brothers and sisters.

Per her wishes, her body has been cremated. Her family will greet friends from 10:00 to 11:00 am Saturday, August 20, 2016 at the Barr Memorial Chapel, Fort Madison. A memorial service will follow and begin at 11:00 am Saturday, August 20, 2016 at the Barr Memorial Chapel, Fort Madison, with Pastor Dean Graber officiating. Burial will be at the Oakland Cemetery, Fort Madison, Iowa. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established for the Elks, contributions may be made at the Barr Memorial Chapel, Fort Madison.
