Doris Marie Nelson, 90 years, Fort Madison, Iowa died at 6:45 am Friday, December 7, 2018 at The Madison. She was born December 20, 1927 in Missouri, a daughter of Stanley and Hesse (Daniels) Peak. On September 8, 1951, she married Richard L. Nelson in Fort Madison. He preceded her in death October 6, 2016.

Doris was a homemaker. She worked in the kitchen at the Richardson Elementary and at Sheaffer Pen. She was a great cook who enjoyed gardening and flowers, traveling with Sheaffer friends, animals and dancing. She was a big Randy Travis fan.

She is survived by two sons, Gary Nelson (Lisa May) of Fort Worth, Texas and Greg Nelson of Fort Madison; one daughter, Debra Nelson of Naperville, Illinois; two sisters: Bonnie Morrison of Fort Madison and Linda (Floyd) Wieland, of Rolla, Missouri; four grandchildren: Gary Jr and Donna, Heather, Kathleen, Emily and Jeremy; seven great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one son Steven, one brother Richard.

Visitation will be held from 10:30 - 11:30 am Monday, December 10, 2018 at the Barr Memorial Chapel, Fort Madison. A funeral service will follow and begin at 11:30 am Monday, December 10, 2018 at the funeral home, with Pastor Dean Graber officiating. Burial will be at Oakland Cemetery, Fort Madison. A memorial has been established, contributions may be made at the Barr Memorial Chapel.
