Obituary

Dorothy Jean "Dot" Widdifield, 85 years, of Burlington, Iowa and formerly of Fort Madison, Iowa died Saturday November 19, 2011 at the Great River Hospice House, West Burlington, Iowa. Dorothy was born November 3, 1926 at Fort Madison, Iowa, a daughter of William and Ethel Levo (McCabe) Heald. On May 11, 1947 she married Bernard Widdifield at Fort Madison. He preceded her in death. Dorothy spent most of her life in the area and was a 1944 graduate of the Fort Madison High School. She at one time worked for the Fort Madison Creamery, at Kern Insurance Agency, and for many years as a parts clerk for Murray Iron Works/Trane Company/Coppus/Tuthill/Dresser-Rand in Burlington, Iowa, retiring at age 82. She was an avid bowler, competing in tournaments all over the county and was a member of the Bowler's Hall of Fame. She enjoyed traveling, but most especially Dorothy loved her family and spending her time with them.

She is survived by one daughter, Barbara Jeanne (husband John) Geyer, of Montrose, Iowa; two grandsons, John F. Geyer and Jason R. Geyer; and two great granddaughters. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters, and two brothers.

Per her wishes, her body has been cremated. Her family will greet friends from 6:00 - 8:00 pm Tuesday November 22, 2011 at the Barr Memorial Chapel, Fort Madison, Iowa. Private family graveside services at the Oakland Cemetery, Fort Madison, Iowa will have already been held, with Reverend Goldie Laymon officiating. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established for Camp Courageous of Iowa, at Monticello, Iowa, contributions may be made at the Barr Memorial Chapel.
