Edward J. Hayes, 83 years, of Fort Madison, Iowa died at 1:30 pm Wednesday, December 4, 2013 at the Fort Madison Community Hospital, Fort Madison, Iowa. He was born February 1, 1930 in Wever, Iowa, a son of Carl Marion Sr. and Edna Ethel (Allen) Hayes.
He loved being around others, and he enjoyed fishing, playing bingo and dominos. He attended the Montrose Church of the Nazarene.
He is survived by four brothers and four sisters: William (wife Joy) Hayes, of Keokuk, Iowa; Betty Smith, of Donnellson, Iowa; Leatha (husband Bill) Crom, of Fort Madison, Iowa; Loretta Hayes, of Donnellson, Iowa; John (wife Linda) Hayes, of Montrose, Iowa; Carl (wife Sharon) Hayes Jr., of Donnellson, Iowa; Tom (wife Barb) Hayes, of Donnellson, Iowa; and Donna (husband Glen) Myers, of Keokuk, Iowa; one uncle Bob Allen, numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother Orval Hayes.
His body has been cremated. His family will greet friends from 5 - 7 pm Sunday, December 8, 2013 at the Montrose Church of the Nazarene, 501 Main Street, Montrose, Iowa. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 am Monday, December 9, 2013 at the Montrose Church of the Nazarene, Montrose, Iowa, with Reverend John Hayes, Reverend William Hayes, and Reverend Preston Smith, officiating. Burial will be at Oakland Cemetery, Fort Madison, Iowa. A memorial has been established, contributions may be made at the church or the Barr Memorial Chapel.
