Obituary

Edward Andrew Menke, 89 years, of Fort Madison, Iowa died at 1:14 pm Monday, March 26, 2012 at the Great River Medical Center, West Burlington, Iowa. He was born September 1, 1922 at West Point, Iowa, a son of Henry and Agnes (Merschbrock) Menke. On April 11, 1953, he married Elizabeth "Liz" Viola Mayer, in Edina, Missouri. She preceded him in death on November 18, 2011.

He was a lifelong resident of the area. He was a graduate of St. Mary's High School. He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during World War II. He was awarded the Purple Heart. He worked as a technician at Sheaffer Pen Company, retiring after 40 years of service. He was a member of Holy Family Parish. He enjoyed fishing, mushroom hunting, playing cards, and was a fan of the St. Louis Cardinals. He loved his family, being a husband and father, and will be greatly missed.

He is survived by two daughters: Cynthia (husband Randy) Poulter, of Montrose, Iowa and Mary Kay (husband Marvin) Boeding, of West Point, Iowa; one brother, Leroy "Pete" (wife "Rocky") Menke, of Fort Madison, Iowa; one sister, Patty (husband Ed) Weckbach, of Fort Madison, Iowa; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, two sisters, Laura Scharpman and Margaret Weckbach, and one brother, Walter Menke.

Per his wishes, the body of Mr. Menke has been cremated. His family will greet friends from 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm, Wednesday, March 28, 2012 at the Barr Memorial Chapel, Fort Madison, Iowa. A private family service and burial will be at a later date at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Fort Madison, Iowa. A memorial has been established for PAWS, contributions may be made at the Barr Memorial Chapel.
