Evelyn "Evie" Marie Pieper, 85 years, of Pella, Iowa and formerly of Houghton, Iowa died early Monday morning June 27, 2016 peacefully in her sleep, at The Cottages, Pella, Iowa.
Evie was born October 24th, 1930 in Fort Madison, Iowa, a daughter of John and Elizabeth (Hellman) Sanders. On July 15th, 1950 she married the love of her life, Robert E. Pieper, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Houghton, Iowa.
Evie was a 1947 graduate of St. John's High School, Houghton, Iowa and received a teaching degree from Ottumwa Heights College. She taught for many years continuing as a substitute teacher through retirement along with the demands of an active farm wife and mother of seven children. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Houghton, Iowa and St. Mary's Catholic Church, Pella, Iowa. She and her husband Bob, loved to travel visiting new places, seeing friends and family and spending winters in Arizona during many years of their retirement.
Evie was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, Marian, Shirley and Johnita, as well as her husband Bob. She is survived by four sons: Rick (Alice) Pieper, of Wever, Iowa; Randy (Kathy) Pieper, of New London, Iowa; Lee (Linda) Pieper, of Houghton, Iowa; and John (Sandy) Pieper, of Ankeny, Iowa; three daughters: Beth (David) Hector, of Omaha, Nebraska; Lori Pieper (Lori Bye), of Surprise, Arizona; and Jill (Gary) Konfrst, of Pella, Iowa; 20 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Rosary will be recited at 4:00 pm Tuesday, July 5th, 2016 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Houghton, Iowa. Visitation with her cremated remains present will follow and conclude with a Christian Vigil Service at 6:30 pm at the church. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am Wednesday, July 6th, 2016 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Houghton, Iowa with Reverend Bruce DeRammelaere as celebrant. Burial of her cremated remains will be at St. John's Cemetery, Houghton, Iowa following.
