Frances V. Gregory, 92 years, of Fort Madison, Iowa died at 2:55 pm Wednesday, September 11, 2013 at the Montrose Health Center, Montrose, Iowa. She was born June 4, 1921 at Revere, Missouri, a daughter of Everett V. and Esther Kautz Evermon. On November 11, 1939, she married Richard "RC" Gregory at Kahoka, Missouri. He preceded her in death.
She was a housewife and mother. She was a member of the Fort Madison United Methodist Church, Fort Madison, Iowa. Through out their 38 years of marriage, Frances and Dick built two homes together, enjoyed the fruits of their large gardens and many flowers. She always enjoyed working in her flower beds and you would be surprised if you found a weed among the many flowers. She worked hard on their five acres, helping to attend to the many fruit trees. You could often find her playing Old Maid with her grandkids and great grandkids. Before her sight started going you could find her embroidering her many sets of dish towels and pillow cases that each family member received. She will be greatly missed by all her family and friends.
She is survived by her two sons: Dick F. (wife Janet) Gregory, of Fort Madison, Iowa; Daniel J. Gregory, of Gersham, Oregon; one daughter, Beverly (husband Harold) Elmore, of Sweet Home, Oregon; one brother, Ernest (wife Leta) Evermon, of Hamilton, Illinois; four sisters: Zola Marie Brammer and Mary Lipper, both of Kahoka, Missouri; Betty Fox, of Revere, Missouri and Laura (husband Harold) Webber, of Unionville, Missouri; one brother-in-law, Joe Dobson, of Keokuk, Iowa; one sister-in-law, Gerry Evermon, of Kahoka, Missouri; three grandchildren: Renota (husband Ray) Chambers, of Packwood, Iowa; Wendy (husband Mike) Bushnell, of Albany, Oregon and Kim (husband Allen) Reves, Sweet Home, Oregon; six great grandchildren: Alex(wife Sarah), Evan, Brenna and Nellie Chambers, Nicholas and Michael Reves and several nieces, nephews and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three brothers: Roy in infancy, George and Howard Evermon; six sisters: Myrtle in infancy, Vera Mae Shuler, Viola Davis, Pearl Gregory, Mabel Wolf and Beulah Dodson and two grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 9:30 - 10:30 am Saturday, September 14, 2013 at the Barr Memorial Chapel, Fort Madison, Iowa. Her funeral service will follow and begin at 10:30 am Saturday, September 14, 2013 at the Barr Memorial Chapel, with Pastor Bill Willis officiating. Burial will be at the Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery. A memorial has been established for Lee County Health Department Hospice, contributions may be made at the Barr Memorial Chapel, Fort Madison.
