Garnet Adella Thele, 93 years, of Denmark, Iowa died at 5:22 am Thursday, April 19, 2012 at the West Point Care Center, West Point, Iowa. She was born January 30, 1919 at Augusta, Iowa, a daughter of Frank Addison and Myrtle Josephine (Maneely) Hopson. On August 20, 1936, she married Albert Anthony Thele at Kahoka, Missouri. He preceded her in death February 3, 1970.
Mrs. Thele was a homemaker and lifelong resident of the area. She was a former member of St. Mary's Church of Augusta, belonging to their Altar and Rosary Society and was treasurer of the church for 23 years. She was a member of the Holy Family Parish, of Fort Madison, Iowa and of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR). She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, gardening, and mushroom hunting. She was a fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes football and basketball, and enjoyed listening to baseball, with the New York Yankees as her favorite.
She is survived by two sons, Lyle (wife Dorothy) Thele, of Loveland, Colorado and Carl Thele, of Cornith, Texas; one daughter, Marilyn (husband Ron) Rockel, of Gardner, Kansas; one daughter-in-law, Diana Thele, of Wever, Iowa; nine grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren, one great great granddaughter, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, five brothers: Harry, Roland, Leland, Harold and Carl Hopson; two sisters, Eileen Burnett and Thelwyn Walker; and one son, Gerald Thele.
Her family will greet friends from 4:00 to 5:00 pm Sunday, April 22, 2012 at the Barr Memorial Chapel, Fort Madison, Iowa, with a Christian Wake Service being held at 5:00 pm Sunday evening. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 am Monday, April 23, 2012 at Holy Family Parish, Ss. Mary and Joseph Catholic Church. Rev. David Wilkening as Celebrant. Burial will be at the Augusta Cemetery, Augusta, Iowa. A memorial has been established for Lee County Hospice and Twin Oaks Apartments, contributions may be made at the Barr Memorial Chapel.
