Obituary

George "Elmer" Thompson, 88 years, of Fort Madison, Iowa died at 4:15 am Saturday, May 5, 2012 at the Fort Madison Health Center, Fort Madison, Iowa. He was born September 4, 1923 at Revere, Missouri, a son of George Ellsworth and Edna (Peckham) Thompson.

George had been a resident of Fort Madison since 1946. He worked as a production worker for 22 ½ years, at the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant. He also worked as a self employed carpenter for many years, in the Fort Madison area. He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during World War II. He was of the Christian Faith.

George loved country music and enjoyed watching CMT. He also enjoyed fishing and spending time on the Mississippi River. He loved spending time with family and friends telling stories.

He is survived by one daughter, Debbie Kruse, of Salem , Iowa; one stepdaughter, Darla Farrell, of Fort Madison, Iowa; two stepsons, Don Hotop, of Fort Madison, Iowa and Steve Hotop, of Missouri; one brother, Raymond "Swed" Thompson, of Fort Madison, Iowa; three grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Violet Branch and Gloria Ruth Westermeyer, and one infant sister.

A private visitation in honor of George was held at the Barr Memorial Chapel. George's wishes were to be cremated. There will be a celebration of life for George at a later date which is still pending.
