Glen P. Heins, 84 years, of Fort Madison, Iowa died at 5:55 am Friday, November 23, 2012 at the Fort Madison Health Center, Fort Madison, Iowa. He was born May 23, 1928 at Carrollton, Missouri, a son of Walter Glen and Dorris (Nowland) Heins. He first married Norma Penrod. They later divorced. On December 1, 1980, he married Jeanette C. Karhoff.
He was a 1946 graduate of Carrollton High School. He moved to Fort Madison in 1947. He work as a conductor and brakeman for the Santa Fe Railroad for 43 years. He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during the Korean War from 1952 - 1954. He was a lifetime member of the VFW and Eagles Club. He was a member of the Railroad Retirees and was of the Methodist Faith. He and Jeanette spent 23 years in Mission, Texas as snowbirds. He loved his family.
He is survived by his wife, Jeanette Heins, of Fort Madison, Iowa; two sons, Glen Fredrick Heins, of Donnellson, Iowa and David L. Heins, of Donnellson, Iowa; one daughter, MaryBeth (husband Jeff) Hoskins, of Donnellson, Iowa; two step-sons, Mike (wife Ann) Penrod, of Donnellson, Iowa and Jim (wife Julie) Steffen, of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa; two step-daughters, Susan D. Fields, of Donnellson, Iowa and Marilyn Steffen, of Fort Madison, Iowa; one brother, Gerald Heins Sr., of Carrollton, Missouri; one sister, MaryAnn( John) Zollman, of Estes Park, Colorado; three grandchildren: Dylan Heins, Andy Heins, and Jake Shannon; three step-granddaughters: Amy VanPelt, Jessica Welch, and Kimberly Boreman; one step-grandson, Tyler Hoskins; one step-great grandson, Atticus Joe Boreman; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and one granddaughter, Amanda Ellison.
Visitation will be held from 3:00 - 6:00 pm Sunday, November 25, 2012 at the Barr Memorial Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am Monday, November 26, 2012 at the Barr Memorial Chapel, with Reverend Brenda Goodall officiating. Burial will be at Soldiers Circle, Oakland Cemetery, Fort Madison, Iowa. A memorial has been established for the Food Pantry and Alzheimer's Association, contributions may be made at the Barr Memorial Chapel.
