Gregory Edward Mueller, 87 years, of Fort Madison, Iowa died at 11:42 am Sunday January 27, 2013 at the West Point Care Center, West Point, Iowa. He was born May 24, 1925 in St. Paul, Iowa, a son of William H. and Margaret (Dingman) Mueller. On April 17, 1952, he married Marian Rita Denning in Houghton, Iowa.
He moved to Ft. Madison in 1987 from the St. Paul, Ia. area where he lived and farmed for many years. He worked as a security guard at Sheaffer Pen Co., with 25 years service. He also worked at Pinkerton, Hy-Vee Foods, DuPont, Enterprise Rental and he washed and waxed cars, cut lawns and made envelopes. He was a very avid bowler, walker, jogger and bike rider. For years, he rode his bike 12 miles a day and biked the trails through Iowa. He enjoyed writing to pen pals, playing cards, traveling and volunteering at P.A.W. Animal Shelter and the Visitor Center. He had a lot of interest in antique cars and he was a blood donor. He was a member of the Holy Family Parish, Fort Madison, Iowa.
He is survived by his wife Marian R. Mueller, of West Point, Iowa; one son, Carl William Mueller of Muscatine, Iowa; two daughters, Sandy (husband Darrell) Orr, of Lisbon Falls, Maine and Judy (husband Doug) Thorpe of Des Moines, Iowa; one sister, Celestine Roberts, of rural Fort Madison, Iowa; four granddaughters, several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Jim and Leander and three sisters: Margaret Kempker, Hilda Sickles and Marietta Kruse.
His family will greet friends from 10:00 - 11:00 am Friday, February 1, 2013 at the Barr Memorial Chapel, Fort Madison, Iowa. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Friday, February 1, 2013 at the Barr Memorial Chapel, Fort Madison, Iowa. Burial will be at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Fort Madison. A memorial has been established for the American Cancer Society, contributions may be made at the Barr Memorial Chapel, Fort Madison.
