Helen E. Gregg Wilhelm, 96 years, of Fort Madison, Iowa died at 4:48 pm Friday, May 22, 2015 at The Kensington, Fort Madison, Iowa. She was born on April 27, 1919 in Granger, Missouri, a daughter of Albert and Maude (Moyer) Fairchild. On November 16, 1946, she married Glenn E. Gregg. He preceded her in death on July 19, 1967. She married John Wilhelm on August 5, 1989. He preceded her in death September 4, 2002.
Helen was a 1937 graduate of Granger High School, where she was an active member of the Granger girls basketball team. She worked for Curtis Wright, Fulton Telephone Company, Mitchell Cleaners, Ajax Manufacturing, and Sheaffer Pen Company, which later became Bic Corporation, retiring in August 1979. She was a homemaker for many years, and a great seamstress and quilter. She was a member of the Hawkeye Heritage Quilters Guild, the North Lee County Historical Society, and Bethel Bible Church, New Boston, Iowa.
She is survived by two daughters, Linda (Wayne) Green, of Fort Madison, Iowa and Barbara (Wendell) Hocker, of Fort Madison, Iowa; four grandchildren: Matthew Green, of Donnellson, Iowa; Beth (Tim) Rice, of Burnsville, Minnesota; Kel Anne (Dr. Anthony) Davis, Ames, Iowa; and Mark Hocker, Mt. Vernon, Iowa; four great grandchildren: Marshall Meyer, Josephine Hocker, Ilayna Hocker and Ilsa Davis; three step-children: Jack (Marge) Wilhelm, of Donnellson, Iowa; Barry Wilhelm, of Florida; and Bonnie (Russ) Randolph, of Donnellson, Iowa; one sister-in-law, Jerry Gregg Gross, of Fort Madison, Iowa; nieces and nephews; step-grand children and step-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, two sisters, Josephine and Dorothy Fairchild, two brothers, John and Frank Fairchild, two step-children, Larry Wilhelm and Donna Doyle, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 - 7:30 pm Tuesday, May 26, 2015 at the Barr Memorial Chapel and Cremation Services, Fort Madison. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 pm Wednesday, May 27, 2015 at the Barr Memorial Chapel and Cremation Services, Fort Madison, with Pastor Clegguart Mitchell officiating. Burial will be at Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery, Fort Madison, Iowa. A memorial has been established for Bethel Bible Church, contributions may be left at the Barr Memorial Chapel.
