Helen Mary Hanaphy, 103 years, of Winston-Salem, North Carolina and formerly of Fort Madison, Iowa, died October 24, 2014 at Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Helen was born in Fort Madison, Iowa on April 7, 1911, a daughter of Ben and Mamie Winke. On October 3, 1938, she married Frank Patrick Hanaphy at Fort Madison, Iowa.
Helen spent much of her life in Iowa, before moving to Winston-Salem in 1977. She was a member of St. Leo's Catholic Church.
She is survived by one nephew, C. Melvin Hughes, of Winston-Salem, North Carolina; four nieces, and many great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and her sister, Marie Hughes.
Her body has been cremated. A committal service and burial will be held at 10:00 am Thursday, May 7, 2015 at the Sacred Heart Cemetery, Fort Madison, Iowa. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Leo's Catholic Church, 333 Springdale Ave., Winston-Salem, NC 27104.
