Isla Lachmann, 93 years, of Fort Madison, Iowa passed away at 3:32 pm Friday, January 6, 2017 at The Kensington, Fort Madison. She was born September 6, 1923, in Fort Madison, a daughter of Benjamin Franklin and Emma (Heiser) Engeman. On April 19, 1952 she married Leland C. Lachmann at Fort Madison. He preceded her in death on March 27, 1992.
Isla was a lifelong resident of the area. She worked at Sheaffer Pen Company, first in the factory and the as the secretary to the Vice President. Isla also worked for the Lee County Auditor's office for many years where she became Deputy Auditor. After retiring from the Auditor's office she sold real estate for Fraise Realtors.
She was a member of the Santa Fe United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday School and was a certified Lay speaker. Isla helped to create the "Inside-Outside" outreach program which over the years has helped many families and individuals of the Fort Madison area. She was a current member of the Fort Madison United Methodist Church.
She loved bowling and had been inducted to the Fort Madison bowling hall of fame and the National Bowling Hall of Fame in St. Louis, Missouri.
Survivors include one daughter, Jeri (Chris) Uhlik of Marceline, Missouri, one son Larry (Robin) of Donnellson, Iowa, one brother Melvin Engeman of Loveland, Colorado, one sister-in-law Colette Engeman of Aurora, Colorado, three grandchildren, four step grandchildren, one great-grandson, and three step great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three brothers, and one son-in-law.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 - 6:30 pm Tuesday, January 10, 2017 at the Barr Memorial Chapel and Cremation Services, Fort Madison. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am Wednesday, January 11, 2017 at the Fort Madison United Methodist Church, with Pastor Lanette Van officiating. Burial will be at Oakland Cemetery, Fort Madison. A memorial has been established, contributions may be left at the church or Barr Memorial Chapel.
