Obituary

Jan Annette Kester, 59 years, of Franklin, Iowa died at 2:53 pm Tuesday, August 21, 2012 at the Great River Hospice House, West Burlington, Iowa. She was born March 4, 1953 at Burlington, Iowa, the daughter of Robert Arden and Verna Lou (Conn) Kester. She married Tom Moeller in 1977. They reunited in 2009.

Jan lived most of her life in the area and was a 1971 graduate of the Fort Madison High School. She was a clerk for the Santa Fe Railroad for many years. She was very active in the American Legion Womens Auxiliary, where she organized the Robert A. Kester Scholarship, she started the children's identity program and she was voted Woman of the Year in 2006. For years, she was active in organizing the Franklin 4th of July Celebration to raise funds for the Franklin Park. In 2011, she organized the Jaws of Life Fund Raiser for the Donnellson Fire Department, which raised over $7,000. She was very creative, enjoyed crafts, organized family picnics and barbeques, and was a collector of The Wizard of Oz memorabilia. She loved music, dancing, the beach and ocean, casinos, horses, and her dogs, especially yorkies.

She is survived by Tom Moeller, one son: Shane Kester, of Fort Madison, Iowa; one daughter: Nikki (Toni)Lunden , of Iowa City, Iowa; two brothers: Jerry (Jennifer) Kester, of Fort Madison, Iowa; Todd (Karen) Kester of West Point, Iowa; two sisters: Sherry (Larry) Plotz, of Marion, Iowa; Darla (Edward) Meierotto, of West Point, Iowa; three granddaughters: Starr, Lily, and Dallas Kester; several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and one son, Destry Thomas Moeller.

Her body has been cremated. Her family will greet friends from 6:00 - 7:30 pm Friday, August 24, 2012 at the Barr Memorial Chapel, Fort Madison. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, August 25, 2012 at the Barr Memorial Chapel. A memorial has been established, contributions may be made at the Barr Memorial Chapel.
