Jane Denning, 89 years, formerly of West Point, Iowa died Saturday, September 10, 2011 in San Francisco, California. She was born June 4, 1922, to Stephen and Rosine Catherine (Pollmiller) Holtkamp. She was married in San Francisco on July 29, 1941, to William Conrad Denning, who died on June 11, 1999.
Jane was born and raised in the St. Paul, Iowa area. She and Bill lived most of their lives in San Diego, California where they operated a small business after Bill's retirement from the Navy. Jane was primarily a homemaker, but went back to college to learn accounting for the business. She and Bill were avid gardeners, loved to read, take walks, fish, go on road trips, and host their granddaughters' annual visits. Jane was always proud to have been the first daughter in her family to go to high school and college and that she married the man she loved and enjoyed accompanying him during his Navy career before retiring to San Diego.
After Bill's death Jane returned to Iowa, living in West Point and Fort Madison. She was a former member of St. Mary's of the Assumption Catholic Church, West Point, Iowa. She recently moved to San Francisco, California to be near her daughter .
She is survived by her daughter, Nancy Petrovic (partner Bob Edwards), of San Francisco, California; her granddaughter, Lynne Petrovic (partner Sego Rubin) and a great grandson, Theo, of Bristol, UK; her brother, Ronald (wife Bonnie) Holtkamp, of Burlington, Iowa; her sisters, Edna Panther Fullenkamp and Joan (husband Frank) Bentler of Fort Madison, Iowa; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; her son, Richard William Denning; her granddaughter, Deborah Jean Petrovic; her brother, Paul Walter Holtkamp; and by her half sisters and brothers, Anna Jingst, Mildred Mettenburg, Myrtle Peterschmidt, Alphonse Holtkamp, and Stephen W. Holtkamp.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am Saturday, September 24, 2011 at St. Mary's of the Assumption Catholic Church, West Point, Iowa, with Reverend Dennis Hoffman as Celebrant. Committal service and burial will be at Calvary Cemetery, West Point, Iowa. A memorial has been established for Calvary Cemetery and the Alzheimer's Association; contributions may be made at the church or the Barr-Holtkamp Funeral Home, West Point, Iowa.
