Obituary

Jimmy Lee Wolgemuth, 56, of Burlington, Iowa passed away October 13, 2020 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City following a sudden illness. Jimmy was born January 8, 1964 in Fort Madison, Iowa to Ray Wolgemuth and Betty Colyer. He grew up in Fort Madison, where he graduated high school before attending Kirkwood Community College. He then began his career in construction which led him to his most recent job as a Heavy Equipment Operator for the City of Cedar Rapids. Above all things that he lived for, it was Jimmys love for his family that helped him face life's challenges and hardships. He was happiest when surrounded by his family and friends. Jimmy was a very proud grandfather to his grandchildren and adored them to no end.

If you knew Jimmy, you knew the only thing greater than his love for family and friends was his willingness to help anyone at any time regardless of who you were. Whether it was volunteering at the homeless shelter and salvation army or repairing damages caused by the storm in Cedar Rapids, he did it with a smile. Jimmy was many things, but most people remember him by his desire to help others, his hard-working mentality, and his generous heart.

He overcame his darkest days in life which gave him the ability to see the good in any situation. With his outgoing personality and love for life, it is safe to say that he never met a stranger.

Survivors include his mother Betty Colyer; step-mother Sharon Epperson; three daughters, Dakota Wolgemuth, Crissie Williams and Elana Rutter; one son Isaiah Rutter; 10 grandchildren Aiden, Maylee, Westen, Zheland, Jamal, Brian, Ethelyn, Kay, Rylley, Dayton; four sisters, Joy Swan, Pat Vaughn, Cindy Krogmeir, and Ramah Gehle; three brothers, Danny Wolgemuth, Bryan Thornburg and Joey Thornburg; five nieces, Brandy, Danielle, Mandy, Isabel and Megan; four nephews Dustin, Jason, Brad and Derek, and an abundance of friends. He was preceded in death by his father and a nephew, Raymond.

Barr Memorial Chapel is assisting the family with a private burial of his cremated remains at Denmark Cemetery, Denmark, Iowa.
