John Edward "Doc" Hall, 63 years, of Fort Madison, Iowa died at 6:43 pm Tuesday, March 27, 2012 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City, Iowa. He was born July 23, 1948 at Princeton, Illinois, a son of Mervin "Doc" Edward and Joy LuVerne (Lahr) Hall. He first married Sandra Brown. They later divorced. On May 4, 2007, he married Ronda Helling at Fort Madison, Iowa. She survives.
He worked as a conductor for the Santa Fe Railroad for 42 years. He was a veteran of the United States Marines, serving during the Vietnam War. He also served in the United States Army Reserve for 20 years. He was a member of the Moose Club, VFW, and NRA. He enjoyed playing pool and poker, and was a Nascar fan, of Jeff Gordon.
He is survived by his wife, Ronda Hall, of Fort Madison, Iowa; one daughter, Andrea (husband Matt) Etzel, of Chillicothe, Illinois; two step-sons; one brother, Barry (wife Carol) Hall, of Lacon, Illinois; three sisters: Charmaine (husband Dave) McHone, of Rockton, Illinois; Su'Ann (husband John II) Richards, of Kathleen, Georgia; Tara (husband Harold) Read, of Putnam, Illinois; 15 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and infant daughter, Monica Lynn.
Per his wishes, his body has been cremated. Burial with full military rites will be held at 10:00 am Monday, April 2, 2012 at Soldiers Circle, Oakland Cemetery, Fort Madison, Iowa. A memorial has been established, contributions may be made at the Barr Memorial Chapel.
