John Colton Enslow, Sr., 90 years, of Fort Madison, Iowa died at 5:35 am Friday, April 6, 2012 at the Fort Madison Community Hospital, Fort Madison, Iowa. He was born September 22, 1921 at his home, rural Denmark, Iowa, a son of John F. and Carrie A. (Colton) Enslow. On October 15, 1950, he married Marilyn Moore at Fort Madison, Iowa. She preceded him in death.
He was a lifelong resident of the area. He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during World War II. He worked for 32 years as the projectionist at the former State Theater in Fort Madison. He was a member of the First Baptist Church. He enjoyed hunting and photography.
He is survived by three sons: John C. Jr. (wife Dana) Enslow, of Wichita, Kansas; Lee (wife Della) Enslow, of Beaver, Iowa; and Alan (wife Beverly) Enslow, of Metamora, Illinois; 6 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, one brother, George Enslow, and one sister, Sarah Danover.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 - 11:00 am Monday, April 9, 2012 at the First Baptist Church, 301 24th St., Fort Madison, Iowa. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Monday, April 9, 2012 at the First Baptist Church, with Reverend Dean Graber, officiating. Burial with military rites will be at Fairview Cemetery, rural Denmark/Fort Madison, Iowa. A memorial has been established for First Baptist Church, contributions may be made at the Barr Memorial Chapel or at the church on the day of the service.
