John Victor Mansheim, 98 years, of Fort Madison, Iowa died at 4:20 pm Tuesday, July 10, 2012 at the Fort Madison Health Center, Fort Madison, Iowa. He was born July 6, 1914 at Fort Madison, Iowa, the son of John Henry and Berdine (Heiman) Mansheim. On June 22, 1943, he married Sallie Lee Evelyn Finley at Fort Madison, Iowa. She survives.
John has been a resident of Fort Madison most of his life. He was the director of Plant Engineering at Sheaffer Pen Company, retiring after 20 years of service. He was a member of Holy Family Parish, the Knights of Columbus, and Elks Club. He was an ametuer radio operator and was a member the American Radio Relay League. After retiring, John and Sallie enjoyed traveling.
He is survived by his wife, Sallie Mansheim, of Fort Madison, Iowa and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, two sisters, and two infant brothers.
Friends may call after 1:00 pm Thursday, July 12, 2012 at the Barr Memorial Chapel, Fort Madison where the family will meet friends from 6:00 - 7:00 pm. A Christian Wake service will be begin at 7:00 pm at the funeral home during visitation. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am Friday, July 13, 2012 at the Ss. Mary and Joseph Catholic Church, of Holy Family Parish, Fort Madison, with Reverend David Wilkening as Celebrant. Burial will be at the Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery, Fort Madison, Iowa. A memorial has been established for Iowa Hospice, contributions may be made at the Barr Memorial Chapel or at church the day of the mass .
