Joseph Robert Hillgartner, 66 years, of Fort Madison, Iowa died Thursday, July 4, 2024 at his home.  He was born July 1, 1958, a son of Francis and Hazel (Mercer) Hillgartner.  He married Theresa Ann Edholm Fuget.  She preceded him in death.

Joe lived in the area most of his life.  He worked at LaMont Limited as a shipping supervisor.  He enjoyed fishing and camping.

He is survived by his brother, John Hillgartner of Blue Grass, Iowa; one niece Jeannie Hillgartner; two nephews Jay Hillgartner and Jerry Hillgartner; two step-sons, Andrew Fuget and Bradley Fuget; step-grandchildren; and extended family and friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents, two infant siblings, and his wife Theresa.

His family will greet friends 5:00 - 6:00 pm Thursday, July 11, 2024 at the Barr Memorial Chapel, Fort Madison.  A Catholic Committal Service and burial of his cremated remains will be held 10:30 am Friday, July 12, 2024 at South Walker Cemetery, rural Burlington, Iowa.  Barr Memorial Chapel is honored to serve the Hillgartner family and an online guest book may be found at www.barrmemorialchapel.com.
