Obituary

Joyce Adaline Dickey, 97 years, of Donnellson, Iowa died Saturday, August 16, 2025 at the Klein Center, West Burlington, Iowa.  She was born June 12, 1928 at Sioux City, Iowa, a daughter of John George and Emma Amanda (Schmidt) Ressen. On June 7, 1947, she married Royal Blaine Dickey at Cherokee, Iowa.  He preceded her in death February 14, 1999.

She was a resident of Lee County since 1959.  Before moving to the Fort Madison area she worked as a CNA for the Cherokee State Hospital, Cherokee, Iowa.  Later she worked for Chevron Chemical packaging products for 18 years.  She returned to work as a nurse's aid.  She worked at the Fort Madison Community Hospital, Fort Madison Health Center, Donnellson Health Center, and West Point Care Center.  She was active in Eastern Star at Diamond Chapter #30, Fort Madison, where she was the Past Matron, Artaban Chapter #483, Donnellson, and E.C. Blackmar Chapter #306, Burlington.   She was a member of the Care Review Committee at the Donnellson Health Center.  She loved crocheting, knitting and rug making.  She was of the Christian Faith.

She is survived by her six children: Carol (William) Mullin of Burlington, Iowa; Susan (Randall) McCarty of Keokuk, Iowa; Nancy (Stephen) Underwood of Keokuk, Iowa;  Chris Dickey of Burlington, Iowa; Mary (James) Schultz of Donnellson, Iowa; and Brian (Heather) Dickey of Fort Madison, Iowa; one sister, Joan Louise Liddle of Santee, California; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers Leo Ressen and Richard Ressen, and two great grandchildren.

Services for Joyce are being held privately at the Barr Memorial Chapel, with private burial to follow at the Fellows Cemetery, Keosauqua, Iowa.  A memorial has been established, contributions may be made at the Barr Memorial Chapel.  Online condolences to the Dickey Family may be made from the Barr Memorial Chapel website, www.barrmemorialchapel.com.
