Obituary

Judith Ann McFerren, 81 yrs., of Fort Madison, Iowa died Wednesday, August 14, 2024 at the Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center, West Burlington, Iowa.  She was born March 28, 1943 at Jackson, Mississippi, a daughter of Franklin Joseph and Dona Idelle (Fickling) Cuevas.  On March 18, 1962, she married R. Forrest McFerren at Mississippi.  He preceded her in death September 3, 2020.

Judy was a wonderful mother and homemaker.  She was a writer who authored poems and Christian works including children's programs. She loved clothes and shoes and enjoyed dressing nicely.  She had a friendly disposition and was likely to strike up a conversation with anyone in her orbit.  She enjoyed the online services at First Baptist Church, Fort Madison.

Judy had a rough time recently, and her faith in Jesus got her through.  In the end, she knew it was time to rest in her Savior's arms and she went bravely and unafraid.  To some she was Mom, to others Grandmommy or Grandma.  To Sadie she was Meemaw.  Her family was proud and blessed to have had her in their lives and she will be deeply missed.  Until the day we see her again, sing with the angels and rest in eternal peace where there are no tears and Jesus holds your hand.  You are loved forever and always.

She is survived lovingly and missed tremendously by her daughters: Michelle (Richard) Koharchik of Merrillville, Indiana; Donna Bratek of Fort Madison; and Judith McFerren (Don Hutchins) of Fort Lauderdale, Florida; three grandchildren: Kirsten (Zach) Griffin, Andrew (Madison) Bratek, and Alex Miller; one great grandson Aven Griffin; grandpuppies: Sadie, Luna, and Blitz; and great grandpuppies, Daisy and Rosie..  She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and two granddaughters, Stephanie McFerren and Hannah Bratek.

Her cremated remains will be placed with her husband, Forrest, at the Keokuk National Cemetery, Keokuk, Iowa.  Barr Memorial Chapel is honored to serve the McFerren family and an online guest book may be found at www.barrmemorialchapel.com.
