Kathleen Ann "Kathy" McKillip, 74 years, of Fort Madison, Iowa died Monday, February 3, 2025 at the Kensington, Fort Madison, Iowa. She was born July 2, 1950 in Fort Madison, Iowa, a daughter of William and Bernice (Mettenburg) Merschman. On June 3, 1972 she married John McKillip in West Point, Iowa.
Kathy graduated from what was then Quincy College, now Quincy University, in 1972. She was a teacher and a darn good one. John always said that God called Kathy to be a teacher. She taught kindergarten in Creve Coeur, Illinois, second grade in Peoria Heights, Illinois and Elkhart, Indiana, and second grade and preschool in Fort Madison, Iowa at Aquinas and Holy Trinity.
She is survived by her husband, John McKillip, two children, Megan (Jason) Glass of Iowa City, Iowa and Brian (Dawna) McKillip of Fort Madison, Iowa; a "Brazilian daughter" Mirela Carnietto of Botucatu, Brazil, two grandchildren, Sam and Madison Glass, and four siblings: Jean (Greg) Humphrey, Joseph (Barb) Merschman, and Henry (Katherine) Merschman, all of Fort Madison and George (Linda) Merschman of Springfield, Illinois. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Friends are invited to join the family for a Rosary at 4:00 pm Monday, February 10, 2025 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Holy Family Parish, Fort Madison. Following the Rosary, her family will greet friends until 6:30 pm. A Christian Wake Service will follow and begin at 6:30 pm Monday evening at the church. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am Tuesday, February 11, 2025 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Holy Family Parish, with Reverend Gary Beckman as Celebrant. Burial will be at Gethsemane Cemetery, Fort Madison. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for Quincy University, Holy Trinity Catholic Schools and the Regina Foundation, contributions may be left at Barr Memorial Chapel or at the church during the services. Barr Memorial Chapel is honored to serve the McKillip family and an online guest book may be found at www.barrmemorialchapel.com.
