Kathy JoAnne Nelson, 59 years, of Fort Madison, Iowa died at 6:26 pm Tuesday, September 26, 2017 at her home after a long battle with kidney disease. She was born June 24, 1958 at Burlington, Iowa, a daughter of Wayne E. and Martha Louise (Rice) Davis. On August 29, 1998, she married Richard L. Nelson Jr. at Fort Madison, Iowa.

Kathy was a 1976 graduate of Fort Madison High School. She attended Southeastern Community College. She was a homemaker, who also worked as a security guard at Roquette for 8 ½ years. She enjoyed crafts, sewing, knitting, crocheting, going to garage sales, stain glass, and loved her pets.

She is survived by her husband Richard L. Nelson Jr., of Fort Madison, Iowa; her mother, Martha Davis, of West Point, Iowa; three sons: Richard Davis, of Keokuk, Iowa, Michael (Stephanie) Nelson, of Fort Madison, Iowa, DeWayne Davis, of Donnellson, Iowa; three daughters: Marie J. Nelson, of St. Paul, Iowa, Rebecca (Kurt) Meyers, of Fort Madison, Iowa, Sarah (Michael) Davison, of Fort Madison, Iowa; one brother, Douglas (Tracey)Davis, of Denmark, Iowa; two sisters: Cheryl Huffman, of Cape Girardeau, Missouri; Karen Wixom, of Burlington, Iowa; one sister-in-law, Susan Davis, of Denmark, Iowa; seven grandchildren, two great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, one brother, Michael Davis and one granddaughter.

Visitation will be from 6:00 - 7:00 pm Friday, September 29, 2017 at the Barr Memorial Chapel, Fort Madison. Following the visitation her body will be cremated. Private burial will be at a later date.
A memorial has been established, contributions may be made at the Barr Memorial Chapel, Fort Madison.
