Obituary

Kimberly "Kim" A. Allen, 64 years, of Fort Madison, Iowa died Saturday, July 26, 2025 at her home from complications of Huntington's Disease.  She was born September 27, 1960 in Fort Madison, Iowa, a daughter of William Robert "Bob" and Joan (Kern) Allen.

She was a 1979 graduate of Fort Madison High School, where she was active in Kilties, tennis and softball.  She then earned a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education from University of Northern Iowa.

Kim was a Fort Madison Police and Fire Dispatcher for 25 years.  She was also a substitute teacher for both the Fort Madison and West Burlington School Districts for several years before Huntington's Disease tragically robbed her of her mobility and speech, confining her to a wheelchair and hospital bed and ending her careers and hobbies.

Kim loved baking cakes, crafting and sewing and rode her beloved horse, Sundance in several Rodeo Parades.  She was active in city adult league softball, and organized, coached, and played 2nd base for the Cabaret co-ed softball team.  In her lifetime, Kim owned and loved several Cocker Spaniels.  She was a John Wayne fan and once got to meet Wayne's co-star in many movies, Maureen O'Hara and some of Wayne's children at a 2007 event in Winterset Iowa, to celebrate Wayne's 100th birthday.

Kim is survived by her longtime partner and caretaker, Randy VanWye, of Fort Madison, Iowa; two brothers: Bill (Barb) Allen, of Montrose, Iowa and Brian K. (Beth) Allen, of Troy, Missouri;  four nephews: Brock (Maria) Allen, Brett (Ali) Allen, Derek (Sarah) Matlock and Laine (Mercedes) Matlock; cousins, several great nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents.

Kim's family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Kim's friends, Judy and Kassie, all of her neighbors and the SEIRMC Home Health Care and Hospice.
