Kristin Marie Smith was born December 10, 1979 at Manistique, Michigan, a daughter of Gifford and Patricia (Howard) Smith. She spent most her life in the Fort Madison area. She graduated from the Fort Madison High School in 1998. She worked at APAC a short time and was a homemaker. She enjoyed music, singing karaoke and spending time with family and friends. She was of Christian Faith.

At 30 years of age, she died at 9:25 pm Friday, June 25, 2010 at the Donnellson Health Center, Donnellson, Iowa, from a rare brain disease. She is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth Ann Smith, age 4 years, of Fort Madison, Iowa; mother and stepfather, Patricia and Adam Moore, of Fort Madison, Iowa; father and stepmother, Gifford and Jane Smith, of Marinette, Wisconsin; three sisters: Kimberly (husband Matt) Auge, of Fort Madison, Iowa; Rachel Smith, of Marinette, Wisconsin; and Catherine Smith, of Marinette, Wisconsin; three brothers: Jamie Moore, of Coralville, Iowa; Joshua Moore, of Coralville, Iowa; and Kevin Smith, of Marinette, Wisconsin; her maternal grandmothers, Caroline Howard, of Gulliver, Michigan and Marcella Moore, of Fort Madison, Iowa; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by one sister: Julia Smith, her grandfathers and a paternal grandmother.

Per family's wishes, her body was donated for medical research to further the study of her disease. Her family will greet friends from 4:00 to 6:00 pm Thursday, July 1, 2010 at the Barr Memorial Chapel. A memorial service will follow at 6:00 pm Thursday at the funeral home, with Pastor Bill Willis, officiating. A memorial has been established for the support and education of her daughter, Elizabeth, contributions may be made at the Barr Memorial Chapel.
