LaVerne Lilly Kious, 78 years, of Fort Madison, Iowa died at 10:50 pm Wednesday, May 21, 2014 at the Montrose Health Center, Montrose, Iowa. She was born October 22, 1935 at Fort Madison, Iowa, a daughter of Henry and Catherine (Strunk) Bohnenkamp. On October 1, 1960, she married Charles E. "Chuck" Kious at St. Mary's Church, Fort Madison, Iowa. He preceded her in death August 15, 2008.

She was a homemaker and also worked as a pharmacy assistant at Lampe Drug for 12 years. She was a 1953 graduate of Catholic Central High. She enjoyed golfing, flower gardening and reading. She was a member of the Holy Family Parish, Fort Madison, Iowa.

She is survived by two daughters: Sandra (husband Brian) Holterhaus, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Lisa (husband Don) Hamilton, of Fort Madison, Iowa; one sister, Rita Ballinger, of Niota, Illinois; three grandchildren: Daniel Holterhaus, Kayla Hamilton and Taylor Hamilton; numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one son, Steve Kious, six brothers: George Bohnenkamp, Vincent Bohnenkamp, Leo Bohnenkamp, Paul Bohnenkamp, Ted Bohnenkamp, and Robert Bohnenkamp and two sisters, Genievieve Moore and Evelyn Moehn.

Her body has been cremated. Her family will greet friends from 9:30 - 10:30 am Tuesday, May 27, 2014 at Ss. Mary and Joseph Catholic Church, Holy Family Parish, Fort Madison. Mass of Christian Burial will follow and be held at 10:30 am Tuesday, May 27, 2014 at the church, with Reverend Mark P. Spring as Celebrant. Burial will be at the Sacred Heart Cemetery, Fort Madison, Iowa. A memorial has been established for Holy Family Parish, contributions may be made at the church or the Barr Memorial Chapel, Fort Madison.
