Lloyd Dennis “Sonny” Dodson, 90 years, of Fort Madison, Iowa died Thursday, October 1, 2026. He was born April 30, 1936 at Fort Madison, Iowa, a son of Lloyd Charles “Tubby” and Dorothy (Logan) Dodson. On July 18, 1969, he married Palmyra Susan Hawk at Kahoka, Missouri. On their 25th Anniversary, they renewed their vows at the First Baptist Church, Fort Madison, Iowa. She preceded him in death August 3, 2008.
He was a lifelong resident of Fort Madison, Iowa. He was a truck driver for 42 years. He loved to play horse shoes, watch car and truck races, go to tractor pulls and the state fair. He enjoyed gospel and blue grass music. He was a member of the First Baptist Church.
He is survived by one daughter, Sonya Sue (Shawn) Hutson of Wever, Iowa; one son, Phillip Wayne Dodson (Carol Long) of Fort Madison, Iowa; one step-son, Monty Lee (Vickie) Habben of Centerville, Iowa; one brother, Donald Dodson of Keokuk, Iowa; one sister, Alberta Fullhart of Fort Madison, Iowa; grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Pal, one son Dennis Dodson, three sisters and one grandson.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 - 11:15 am Tuesday, October 6, 2026 at the Barr Memorial Chapel, Fort Madison. A grave side service will follow and begin at 11:30 am Tuesday, October 6, 2026 at Oakland Cemetery, Fort Madison, Iowa, with Pastor Les Featheringill officiating. A memorial has been established for Shriners Hospitals for Children or St. Jude Children’s Hospital, contributions may be left at the Barr Memorial Chapel, Fort Madison. Barr Memorial Chapel is honored to serve the Dodson family.
