Lois Mary Pohlpeter, 79 years, of Fort Madison, Iowa died at 2:25 pm Sunday November 6, 2011 at her home. She was born September 10, 1932 at Farmington, Iowa, a daughter of Arthur and Daisy (Wood) Morrett. On October 11, 1952, she married Richard Pohlpeter at Fort Madison, Iowa. He survives.
Lois was a homemaker and lifelong resident of the area. She was a 1949 graduate of Fort Madison High School. She was an active member of the First Christian Church, Disciples of Christ, and was a Deaconess Meritus, Sunday School Teacher, Treasurer, member and Secretary/Treasurer of their Christian Women's Fellowship. She was a youth group sponsor years ago. She was a member of Silver Cross of Kings Daughters. She was a NASCAR fan. She was active with her children and grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband, Richard "Dick" Pohlpeter, of Fort Madison, Iowa; one son, Dale (wife Gerry) Pohlpeter, of Fort Madison, Iowa; four daughters: Rebecca "Becky" (husband Richard) Baker, of Fort Madison, Iowa; Carol (husband Mike) May, of Fort Madison, Iowa; Lorrie (husband John) Bird, of Franklin, Iowa; and Ellen (husband Curt) Mumpower, of Quincy, Illinois; three sisters: Elizabeth "Libby" Mayer, of Fort Madison, Iowa; Nancy (husband Billy) Wagner, of Denmark, Iowa; and Janet (husband Richard) Blint, of Denmark, Iowa; ten grandchildren: B.J., Jessi, Adam, David, Amanda, Angie, Jeremy, Yvonne, Heather, and Abbie; nine great grandchildren: Madison, Caroline, Imani, Javonte, Kaia, Livia, Olivia, Layne, and Kyle; several sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Friends may call after 1:00 pm Wednesday, November 9, 2011 at the Barr Memorial Chapel, where the family will meet friends from 5:30 - 7:30 pm, Wednesday evening. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am Thursday, November 10, 2011 at the First Christian Church, Fort Madison, Iowa, with Reverend John Simpson, officiating. Burial will be at Soldiers Circle, Oakland Cemetery, Fort Madison, Iowa. A memorial has been established for the Education of her Great Grandchildren, contributions may be made at the Barr Memorial Chapel or at the church on the day of the service.
