Lola May. Juhl was born October 8, 1918 at rural Montrose, Lee County, Iowa a daughter of Robert Sr. and Susie (Comstock) Hamilton. On December 29, 1938, she married Kenneth Lyle Juhl in Davenport, Iowa. He preceded her in death on October 26, 1996. She was a lifelong resident of the area. She and her husband, Kenneth, farmed near West Point for 68 years. She was a member of the Santa Fe United Methodist Church. She was known for her iris flower gardens, her geode collection and her collection of dolls from the 1950's and 1960's.
At 91 years of age, she died at 10:35 pm Monday, April 12, 2010 at the Fort Madison Community Hospital, Fort Madison, Iowa. She is survived by two sons: Jesse (wife Billie) Juhl, of San Antonio, Texas and Myron Juhl, of Woodbridge, VA; eight grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one son Jerry Juhl, two brothers: Robert Hamilton Jr and Clarence "Bud" Hamilton; and one sister Maxine Herrmuth.
Friends may call after 1:00 pm Thursday, April 15, 2010 at the Barr Memorial Chapel, where the family will meet friends from 6:30 - 7:30 pm Thursday evening. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am Friday, April 16, 2010 at the Santa Fe United Methodist Church, with Reverend Jackie Thompson officiating. Burial will be at the Montrose Cemetery, Montrose, Iowa. A memorial has been established for Santa Fe United Methodist Church.
