M. Joann Culbertson, 85 yrs., of Fort Madison, Iowa died at 1:40 pm Saturday, October 1, 2011 at the Donnellson Health Center, Donnellson, Iowa. She was born August 28, 1926 at Donnellson, Iowa, the daughter of Benjamin Franklin and Frances Elizabeth (Taylor) Warren. On July 5, 1947, she married Keith M. Culbertson at Keokuk, Iowa. He preceded her in death August 21, 1998. Joann was a homemaker and had been a resident of the area all her life. She was a member of the Sweet Adelines for 37 years, was an active member of her church, Fort Madison United Methodist Church, volunteered at the Fort Madison Food Pantry, and delivered Meals on Wheels for many years.

She is survived by her three sons: Mark (wife Debra) Culbertson, of Fort Madison, Iowa; David Culbertson, of Fort Madison, Iowa; and Michael (wife Kim) Culbertson, of Fort Madison, Iowa; five daughters: Viki (husband Mike) Killoren of Washington, Missouri; Trudy (husband Gary) Junkins of Fort Madison, Iowa; Kim (husband Craig) Fellows of Keokuk, Iowa; Amy (husband Ron) Lach of Pinehurst, North Carolina; Jill (husband Steve) Haigh of Ottumwa, Iowa; 16 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, 1 brother and 2 sisters.

Friends may call after 1:00 pm Tuesday, October 4, 2011 at the Barr Memorial Chapel, where the family will greet friends from 5:30 - 7:00 pm Tuesday evening. Funeral services will be 10:30 am Wednesday, October 5, 2011 at the Barr Memorial Chapel, Fort Madison, Reverend Dean Graber will officiate. Following the funeral service her body will be cremated. Private family burial will be held at a later date at Soldiers Circle, Oakland Cemetery, Fort Madison, Iowa. A memorial has been established for the Lee County Health Department Hospice, Fort Madison Food Pantry, and the Fort Madison United Methodist Church, contributions may be made at the Barr Memorial Chapel.
