Obituary

Mabel Anna Posz, 100 years, of Fort Madison, Iowa passed away Wednesday, September 10, 2025 at The Kensington, Fort Madison.  She was born September 13, 1924 at Mason City, Iowa, a daughter of James D. "JD" and Anna Elizabeth (Teeple) Kent.  On June 23, 1947, she married Charles L. Posz at Mason City, Iowa.

Mabel was a homemaker.  She and her family lived in Gary, Indiana for many years.  For 25 years, Charles and Mabel wintered in Texas before moving to Fort Madison to be closer to their son Jim and his family.  She was a volunteer at the Methodist Hospital in Gary, Indiana for 45 years and the Mission Hospital in Texas for 5 years.  She was active in the United Methodist Women, in Gary, Indiana, Mission, Texas and Fort Madison, Iowa.  She was a charter member of the Marquette Park Methodist Church, Gary, Indiana.  Mabel was a member of the First Methodist Church, Mission, Texas and the Fort Madison United Methodist Church, Fort Madison, Iowa.  She enjoyed reading and traveling. Even at the age of 100, Mabel stayed active in her church and community, including delivering Meals on Wheels and volunteering for Lee County Hospice.

She is survived by her two children: Anne (David) Maclure, of San Antonio, Texas and Jim (Betty) Posz, of Fort Madison, Iowa; four grandsons: Ian (Mia-Carla) Maclure, Allen (Marsha) Posz, David (Darcie) Posz and Ty (Kristy) Maclure; five great grandchildren: Kyler, Kayden, Lilly-Anne, Brooklyn, and Abigail; numerous nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three sisters and two brothers.

Per her wishes, her body has been cremated.  Her family will greet friends from 10:00 - 11:00 am Tuesday, September 16, 2025 at the Fort Madison United Methodist Church.  A memorial service will follow and begin at 11:00 am Tuesday, September 16, 2025 at the church with Pastor Nancy St. Clair officiating.  A memorial has been established for the Fort Madison United Methodist Church, Lee County Hospice, and P.A.W., contributions may be made at the Barr Memorial Chapel, Fort Madison.  Barr Memorial Chapel is honored to serve the Posz Family, and an online guest book may be found at the Barr Memorial Chapel website, www.barrmemorialchapel.com.
