Obituary

Manson Phillip Goldie was born January 29, 1921 at Wessington, South Dakota a son of Rev. Phillip Richard Goldie and Leota Adail (Fruehling) Goldie Nourse Christensen. He was raised by his mother and stepfather, Leota and Chris Christensen. On November 27, 1942, he married Lucille May Rhodes at Kahoka, Missouri. They were married for 67 years!

Phillip moved with his family to Lee County when he was 8 years old. He was a graduate of Montrose High School. He and his wife, Lucy, ran Goldie's Grocery Store in Denmark for 25years. They also ran Primary Oil Company in Wever for 10 years, before they retired. He was a member of Denmark Congregational United Church of Christ; he was a 60 year member of the Odd Fellows, Wever Lodge, and a member of the Moose Lodge #5791, in Burlington. He was also a past member of the Denmark Fire Department and the Wever Fire Department. Phillip and Lucy were avid travelers and campers, and have camped in every state, except for Alaska. They also enjoyed dancing.

At 89 years of age, he died at 11:45 pm Wednesday, March 10, 2010 at the Klein Center, Burlington, Iowa. He is survived by his wife, Lucille May "Lucy" Goldie, of Denmark, Iowa; one son, Phillip Richard "Rick" (wife Cindy) Goldie, of Fort Madison, Iowa; one daughter, Gloria (husband Hurley) Gregory, of West Point, Iowa; two brothers, Ray Nourse, of Colona, Illinois and Dr. Chris (wife Diane) Christensen, Calispell, Montana; two sisters, Delores Umbarger, of San Francisco, California and Doris (husband Morris) Cameron, of Pueblo, Colorado; five grandchildren, ten great grandchildren; two step grandchildren, two step great great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Linda Louck; five brothers: infant Dale Christensen, Darrell Goldie, Guerden Christensen, John Christensen, and Harold Christensen; and one granddaughter, Andrea Louck.

The family will greet friends from 5:30 - 7:00 pm Friday, March 12, 2010 at the Denmark Congregational United Church of Christ. An Odd Fellow Service will be held at 6:30 pm during the visitation. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, March 13, 2010 at the Denmark Congregational United Church of Christ, with Reverend Chad Savage, officiating. Burial will be at the Denmark Cemetery, Denmark, Iowa. A memorial has been established for the Denmark Congregational United Church of Christ or the Kline Center, contributions may be made at the church or at the Barr Memorial Chapel.
