Marcella Margaret Scott Gorman, 86 years, of Fort Madison, Iowa died at 7:30 pm Saturday, August 29, 2015 at the Montrose Health Center, Montrose, Iowa. She was born April 8, 1929 at Fort Madison, Iowa, a daughter of Charles Lee and Fern Winifred (Oliver) Scott whom owned Scotts Central Drugs in Fort Madison for many years. In February 1960, she married David Leo Gorman, a naval architect in New York, New York. He preceded her in death in 1996.
She was a graduate of Stephens College, Colombia, Missouri in 1943, majoring in Fashion Merchandising. She worked at Sax Fifth Avenue, New York, New York. In 1955, she was assistant to the buyer, in their newly formed Gown Room. Later she was a fur consultant in Flemington, New Jersey. She was a member of the Rebecca Pollard Study Club, the First Christian Church, P.E.O. Chapter KV, and the Fort Madison Art Center. She truly enjoyed people, reading, home entertaining, and being of service in any small way possible. She was devoted to her family, friends and club members.
She is survived by one son, Andrew O. (wife Kathy) Gorman, of San Francisco, California; one daughter, Katherine D. Gorman (Ian Huntley) of Maplewood, New Jersey; one brother, Gary (wife Judy) Scott, of Carmel, Indiana; two granddaughters: Brianna Huntley and Martha Ramsey Gorman; nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
Per her wishes, her body has been cremated. Her family will greet friends to celebrate her life from
12:00 (noon) to 3:00 pm on Saturday, October 10, 2015 at her home, 1515 Ave G, Fort Madison, Iowa. A memorial has been established for the Fort Madison Art Center and the First Christian Church, contributions may be made at the Barr Memorial Chapel, Fort Madison.
