Marie Louise Gates, 92 years, of Fort Madison, Iowa died 5:15 am Saturday July 13, 2013 at the Kensington, Fort Madison, Iowa. She was born October 17, 1920 at Mount Pleasant, Iowa, a daughter of Joseph and Bertha Martha (Ploeger) Timmerman. On May 1, 1948, she married Raymond Alfred Gates at Phoenix, Arizona. He preceded her in death on April 8, 1997.

Marie and her husband moved to Fort Madison in 1989. She was a homemaker. For a period of time, she worked outside of her home as a stenographer and a nurse assistant. She was a classical pianist, but also loved playing hymns at church. She enjoyed sewing and her quilt group at church. She was a member of the Church of God.

She is survived by one son, Joseph Alfred (wife Stella) Gates, of West Hartford, Connecticut; two daughters, Mary Martha (husband Thomas) Goss; of North Liberty, Iowa and Nancy Rae (husband Richard) Noon, of Fort Madison, Iowa; one sister, Edith Day, of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa; six grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, six brothers: Roy, Carl, Orval, Glen, Paul and Guy Timmerman; and one sister, Margaret Remick.

Family will greet friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm Tuesday July 16, 2013 at the Barr Memorial Chapel, Fort Madison. Funeral services will be held 10:30 am Wednesday July 17, 2013 at the Barr Memorial Chapel, Fort Madison. Burial will be held at the Soldiers Circle, Oakland Cemetery, Fort Madison, Iowa. A memorial has been established, contributions may be made at the Barr Memorial Chapel, Fort Madison.
