Marilyn Kay Gansy, 76 years, of Fort Madison, Iowa passed away at 3:35 pm Wednesday, August 14, 2013 at her home after a courageous four year battle with cancer. She was born September 16, 1936 at Joliet, Illinois, a daughter of Earl and Dorothy (Reed) Sulzberger. On June 22, 1958, she married Ronald Gansy at the First Methodist Church, Dallas City, Illinois.
She was a homemaker. She also worked at Sheaffer Pen and was a receptionist for social services for the State of Iowa for several years. She was a member of Double Ten, Kings Daughters Circle and the Fort Madison United Methodist Church, Fort Madison. She loved flowers, hummingbirds and her family most of all.
She is survived by her husband Ronald Gansy, of Fort Madison, Iowa; two sons: Brian (wife Melissa) Gansy, of Ottawa, Kansas and Brent (wife Stacey) Gansy, of Fort Madison, Iowa; two daughters: Deb (husband Joe) Kokjohn, of Fort Madison, Iowa and Karen Malcom, of New London, Iowa; three brothers: Robert (wife Dorothy) Sulzberger, of Homewood, Illinois, Duane (wife Sue) Sulzberger, of Burlington, Iowa and Fred Sulzberger, of Rogers, Arkansas; eight grandchildren: Chad (wife Courtney) Kokjohn, Curt (wife Morgan) Kokjohn, Chris (wife Calean) Kokjohn, Kala Holtkamp, Dakotah Malcom, Steven Gansy, Nicole Gansy, and Kanyon Gansy; five great grandchildren: Kaiden, Cael, Colton, Cooper, and Finley; numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers: Earl and Darryld and one granddaughter, Brianna.
Per her wishes, her body has been cremated. Her family will greet friends from 10:00 to 11:00 am Saturday, August 17, 2013 at the Barr Memorial Chapel, Fort Madison, Iowa. A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, August 17, 2013 at the Barr Memorial Chapel, Fort Madison with Reverend Lanette Van officiating. Burial will be at the Claypoole Cemetery, rural Wever, Iowa. A memorial has been established for the Great River Hospice. Contributions may be made at the Barr Memorial Chapel, Fort Madison.
