Martha Joyce Sloan, 73 years, of Keokuk, Iowa died at 1:13 pm Tuesday, February 4, 2014 at the Keokuk Area Hospital, Keokuk, Iowa. She was born August 28, 1940 in Jemison, Alabama, the daughter of Arch Clinton and Unis M. (Wilson) Wells. On December 20, 1984, she married Richard Jaren Sloan. He preceded her in death.

She had a love for animals and spent over 25 years caring for and breeding unusual birds.

She is survived by her longtime special friend and devoted care giver of many years, Cheryl Cole, of Keokuk, Iowa and her pet birds. She was preceded in death by her parents, step-mother, husband, and two step-sisters.

Her body has been cremated. Per her request, no services are planned. A memorial has been established for PAWS. Contributions may be sent at the Barr Memorial Chapel.
