Melvin Junior Allison, 71 years, of Denmark, Iowa, died at 8:45 pm Thursday, Oct 9, 2014 at the Great River Hospice House, West Burlington, Iowa. He was born June 27, 1943 at Knox City, Missouri, a son of William and Lydia (Stice) Allison. On November 4, 1962, he married Marlyce Sears at Winfield, Iowa.

Mel grew up in the Williamstown, Missouri area. He worked at Sheaffer Pen for years as maintenance foreman and in purchasing, retiring in 1998. He was a hobby farmer, and was of the Christian faith. Mel was an avid hunter and enjoyed fishing and competitive shooting. He was a member of Pheasants Forever, Ducks Unlimited, and Three Rivers Conservation. He was a mason and a member of the Winfield Masonic Lodge 235, A.F. & A.M. He was a member of the Denmark Jet Stop Social Club and of the Wild Bunch. He had a strong sense of family.

He is survived by his wife, Marlyce Allison, of Fort Madison, Iowa; one daughter, Jerilynn (husband Terry) Reynolds, of Winfield, Iowa; two brothers, Gary (wife Robin) Allison, of Smithville, Missouri and Cletus Allison, of Bedford, Texas; two sisters, Mary Redd, of Maywood, Missouri and Linda (husband Elmer) Gibleon, of Quincy, Illinois; two grandchildren, Kendra Hotop and Morgan Hotop; two step-grandchildren, Andrew Reynolds and Katie Reynolds; one aunt, Mary Evans, of Keokuk, Iowa; nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by one son, Lt. Eric Wayne Allison, and his parents.

His body has been cremated. His family will greet friends from 5:00 - 7:00 pm Monday, October 13, 2014 at the Barr Memorial Chapel, Fort Madison. A memorial service will follow and be held at 7:00 pm Monday, October 13, 2014 at the Barr Memorial Chapel, with Pastor Dean Graber, officiating. Private family burial will be held at a later date.
